Do You Offer In-Home Cattery Visits?

For the health and safety of our family, cats, and kittens, we do not allow in-home visits to the cattery.

However, approved applicants are welcome to schedule a FaceTime virtual visit. This allows you to meet us, see the kittens, and ask questions in real time while still maintaining a safe and controlled environment for our animals.

In addition, once you begin the adoption process, we will invite you to join our private Pawseom Poly Maine Coons Facebook group, where you can enjoy photos, videos, updates, and connect with families who have adopted from us in the past.

They are handled daily and are accustomed to normal household activity, ensuring they grow into confident, friendly companions.

Pawseom Poly Maine Coons – Kitten Availability & Reservation Process

Do You Have Kittens Available?

This is our most frequently asked question! Below are the terms you will see on our KITTENS page during the adoption process. These statuses help you understand each kitten’s availability at a glance:

Kitten Status Definitions

AVAILABLE – We are currently accepting adoption applications for this kitten.

HOLD – This kitten is on hold for a potential family. It is unlikely that they will become available again.

RESERVED – Contract has been signed and the reservation fee has been paid. The kitten is almost certainly spoken for.

SOLD – Contract is signed, full payment is complete, and the kitten is officially matched with their new family.

How Do I Reserve a Kitten?

The first step in adopting one of our kittens is to complete an Adoption Application.
This helps us ensure that each kitten is placed in a safe, loving, and suitable home.

Kittens are typically listed as AVAILABLE on our KITTENS page between 6–8 weeks of age.

At Pawseom Poly Maine Coons, we believe that just as every applicant should research breeders thoroughly, it is equally important for us to screen each potential guardian. We review all applications carefully and reserve the right to approve or deny applicants at our discretion.

The Reservation Process
  1. Submit an Adoption Application
Once approved, you may express interest in a specific kitten.

  2. Receive and Review the Contract
Approved applicants will receive a copy of our contract to review.

  3. Contract Returned → Kitten on HOLD
Once you return the signed contract, the kitten will be placed on HOLD temporarily.

  4. Submit Reservation Fee Within 3 Days
You will have 3 Days to submit the non-refundable reservation fee.

    • Once the fee is received, the kitten’s status changes to RESERVED.

    • If the fee is not received within 3 days, the kitten will be returned to AVAILABLE status.

What Is a Reservation Fee?

At Pawseom Poly Maine Coons, our reservation fee is a way for future families to show a genuine and serious commitment to adopting a kitten. This non-refundable fee ensures that we can confidently move a kitten from HOLD to RESERVED, guaranteeing that the kitten is set aside specifically for you.

The reservation fee also helps protect both the adopter and the cattery by ensuring that each placement is made thoughtfully and responsibly.

Our reservation fee is $500, due within 3 days of signing the adoption contract. This amount is applied toward the total purchase price of the kitten.

Important Notes
  • Pawseom Poly Maine Coons reserves first pick of every litter for our future breeding program.

  • We also reserve the right to decline any adopter at any point in the process.

    • If payment has been made in advance and we decline to move forward, any applicable balance will be refunded.

  • Submitting an application and/or returning a signed contract does not guarantee a kitten.
Only the reservation fee officially reserves the kitten.

Maine Coon Specific Questions

How much does a Maine Coon kitten cost?

Purebred Maine Coon kittens from reputable breeders typically cost:

  • $1,800–$2,800 USD for pet-quality kittens

  • $2,500–$5,000+ USD for show-quality or rare colors

Prices vary by breeder reputation, region, pedigree, and demand.

What should I look for in a reputable breeder?

A responsible breeder should:

  • Allow a video tour of their cattery

  • Provide health testing results for both parents

  • Offer a written contract and health guarantee

  • Socialize kittens in a clean, home-like environment

  • Not sell kittens before 12–14 weeks of age

Avoid breeders who:

  • Offer kittens at suspiciously low prices

  • Cannot show proof of genetic testing

  • Will not let you meet parents or see the environment

Are Maine Coons good for families or kids?

Yes. They’re known for:

  • Friendly, gentle personalities

  • High intelligence

  • Adaptability

      They’re often called “gentle giants.”

Why are Maine Coons so expensive?

Because:

  • They are a slow-maturing, large breed

  • Breeders perform genetic testing (HCM, SMA, PKdef)

  • High-quality nutrition and vet care for parents/kittens

  • Demand is usually high, especially for certain colors

Do Maine Coons require special grooming?

Maine Coons have semi-long fur that:

  • Should be brushed 2–3 times weekly

  • May need occasional detangling

  • Sheds seasonally

    • Bathing is optional but can reduce shedding.

Are Maine Coons hypoallergenic?

No. They produce the same allergens as most cats.
Some people find them less irritating due to softer fur, but reactions vary.

Should I get a male or female?

General tendencies:

  • Males: More playful, outgoing, clown-like

  • Females: Slightly more reserved, affectionate on their terms

But personality varies greatly between individuals.

Can I adopt a Maine Coon instead of buying?

Yes, but they are rare in shelters. Check:

  • Maine Coon–specific rescues

  • Breed clubs

  • Petfinder-style searches
Adoption is cheaper but often unpredictable regarding lineage.

Do Maine Coons have specific health risks?

Common breed-related risks:

  • HCM (heart disease)

  • Hip dysplasia

  • Obesity (they love to eat!)

A good breeder screens for these conditions.

Do I need a large home for a Maine Coon?

Not necessarily, but they benefit from:

  • Vertical space (cat trees, shelves)

  • Room to roam and play
    Their activity needs are moderate.

What supplies will I need to prepare for my kitten?

To help your new kitten transition smoothly into their new home, we recommend having the following supplies ready:

Litter Boxes & Litter

  • We use XL stainless steel litter boxes, and we recommend one box for every two cats. The larger size gives Maine Coons plenty of space to move comfortably.

  • Our kittens are familiar with both standard stainless steel boxes and automatic/electric litter boxes.

  • We use TidyCats Unscented Scoopable litter, and your kitten will already be accustomed to it.

Food & Nutrition

Our kittens are raised on a high-quality nutritional routine, including:

  • Royal Canin Maine Coon Kitten and Royal Canin Maine Coon Adult (age appropriate)

  • Purina Pro Plan Adult Indoor Hairball Management – Turkey & Rice Formula

  • Fancy Feast Classic Pâté varieties

We recommend continuing with the same diet during the transition period to avoid digestive upset.

Water Bowls/Fountains

  • Kittens are used to water fountain-style bowls as well as still-water bowls.

  • Avoid plastic water bowls or containers, as plastics can leach chemicals over time.
Choose stainless steel, glass, or ceramic to ensure clean, safe drinking water.

Carrier for Pickup & Future Use

You will need an appropriate pet carrier when picking up your kitten.
We strongly recommend selecting a carrier large enough to accommodate an adult-sized Maine Coon, as they grow quickly and will need the space for future vet visits and travel.

To ensure a comfortable and pleasant journey home, placing a puppy pad inside the carrier is extremely helpful in case your kitten has an accident during the ride.

Grooming Supplies

Maine Coons have beautiful long coats that require regular care:

  • A metal comb is essential for weekly brushing.

  • Combing prevents tangles and mats, which can become very painful for cats.

  • Regular grooming from a young age helps your Maine Coon become comfortable with the routine.

If you are unable to maintain your cat’s coat, we highly recommend finding a professional cat groomer in your area.
